This scenario was updated/adjusted in January 2022 on the following points:
  • Update of the start year (from 2015 to 2019)
  • Solar PV is now based on the estimate from Tussen Kolen en Parijs (Urgenda 2021)
  • Reduced use of biomass in industry and electricity production
  • More hydrogen in the industry

Quintel Intelligence, at the request of Urgenda, has created a (nearly) 100% sustainable scenario using the Energy Transition Model, laying the foundation with the 5x Anders idea for:

The Agenda

The Netherlands 100% on Sustainable Energy by 2030

It is possible if we want it!

This scenario, this report, this vision, this agenda aims to answer the question:

  • If we want it, can we transition to a fully sustainable energy system within twenty years?
  • Is it technically possible?
  • Will our energy system remain at least as reliable?
  • Can we afford this transition, and will it lead to an affordable energy supply in 2030?
  • Are there insurmountable obstacles that make it impossible within twenty years?

If we acknowledge the urgency and truly want it, can we achieve 100% sustainable energy by 2030?

Impact of ETM Improvements and Updates

Improvements to the Energy Transition Model (ETM) and updates may influence the outcomes of the scenario. As a result, small numerical differences may exist between published results and the latest scenario calculations.
